As a lifelong learner I am enthusiastic about gaining as much knowlege as I can about technology. As an educator I want to create vibrant online environments for people in all stages of life to feel comfortable with technology and create online learning communities.
Growing up in a small town in Wisconsin back in the 60s and 70s I never dreamed that I would someday be "skyping" with my two adult daughters on a computer screen. Even watching "The Jetson's" didn't prepare me for Google or Facebook!
A life as a military spouse did prepare for adaptation and change, however. The transcript for my undergraduate work lists courses taken in WI, AZ, CO, and finally OH where we settled down and I completed my degree in Elementary Education at Wright State University.
For the past ten years I have worked for the North American Center for Marianist Studies as the Coordinator for Virtual Learning and Curriculum Innovation. Many changes have happened in the last decade as far as technology and course design. But a major development is the confidence in the participants. They are much more adept at maneuvering through the courses and being comfortable sharing their insights online.
What's in my future as an educator? Perhaps designing and facilitating courses families can take together as part of their vacations to historic sites or museums. The possibilities are endless--I'm ready to learn.
